Our Favorite 15 Startup Podcasts for Your 2016
We live in such a big “paradox-of-choice” age where it’s really easy to get lost among so many great options. But lucky for you, the Cause An Effekt team looked into all the startup podcasts that gave us the most valuable ideas while growing our businesses. So gather round the “radio” with all of your pals and get that feed filled before 2016 hits!
Although not a regular podcaster, marketing guru, Seth Godin generously share this 13 part series recorded in 2012 and everything is still incredibly relevant! In this rare live recording, hear Seth as he guides thirty entrepreneurs through a workshop exploring how they can build and run their dream business. It’s packed full of timeless marketing and business wisdom that you can refer back to over and over again.
This one is no surprise, but really, Alex Blumberg is just unbeatable and the amount of love you find in every each podcast is unsubscribable 🙂 The Gimlet Media podcast network is Blumberg’s own startup. Besides learning the startup concept all the way through funding, how to start a dating company, and the successes and challenges along the way, you’ll even find the ultimate guide to starting your own podcast (and will probably change your mind after hearing “The Secret Formula” on how to create each of their shows). Bravo!
3. The $100 MBA
Omar Zenhom and CAE Guest is the host of iTunes Best of 2014 podcast, teaching you how to get better at business with daily business lessons for the real world. These no fluff, 10-minute episodes are packed with only the business building training you need. Both hosts Omar and Nicole have a decade of education experience. As university educators they learned how to not only teach, but how create and deliver lessons that actually foster learning and ensure comprehension and retention.
We also have bonus listen for you to hear “behind the scenes” insights. Omar was a guest speaker in our show and shared his personal struggle from starting back in 2001 before the age of internet education and how he managed to build successful businesses while working as an educator and administrator, give a listen.
Host and co-founder Amanda Boleyn shares the stories of successful female entrepreneurs – something still rare in the startup world. Each episode always has a great surprise and a dose of inspiration from a dynamic group of companies. We also recommend you follow the blog and get your “Monday Morning Eye Opener.” Great job, ladies!
We LOVE James Altucher – the anti-hero of our entrepreneurial time. The warning of “This is not your average podcast..” sets you up for bold conversation, tough questions and legendary guests including Mark Cuban, Tim Ferriss, Arianna Huffington, Seth Godin, Tucker Max and more. Altucher is a successful entrepreneur, investor, board member, and the writer of 11 books including the recent WSJ Bestseller, “Choose Yourself!” James also lost all his money, made it back, lost it, made it back several times and openly discusses how he did it in his columns and books. Advanced level, but always a good laugh on the way!
David Hooper is known in the music business and among “creative entrepreneurs” of all types. Hooper spreads their messages, builds audiences, helps them make more money with their ideas. This podcast helps to focus on the idea and make a name for yourself (a big one for all you humble geniuses!). RED topics include a lot of content on passive income, outsourcing, social media, how to build trust, email marketing, time management, goal setting, book publishing, viral marketing as well as product development. Kathleen Shannon and Emily Thompson are a charismatic duo with tons of wit and savvy advice. The podcast is dedicated to creative entrepreneurs focusing on getting their sh*t together and doing the work. The ladies provide great tips, tricks, tactics and to-dos to live like a boss!
Pat has brilliant personal story that’s easy to relate to and this guy reveals ALL of his online business and blogging strategies, income sources and killer marketing tips and tricks so you can be ahead of the curve with your online business or blog. Automation, outsourcing, crowdsourcing, search engine optimization, building authority and trust, niche sites, social media, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Podcasting, eBooks, online courses, affiliate marketing, getting things done and everything that works (and doesn’t work) to help you better understand how to crush it with your online business. Also keep an eye for his new book “Will it Fly”.
Felix has created the ideal podcast for first-time e-commerce entrepreneurs that want to learn how to increase traffic and sales. Topics include e-commerce, entrepreneurship, marketing, online businesses, and of course, Shopify. Enjoy actionable interviews with successful e-commerce entrepreneurs on how they achieved their success and the lessons they learned along the way. Very easy to listen to!
10. #AskGaryVee show
We all know Gary is not wasting a time – in other words, this guy is blunt and he builds successful businesses. Fresh out of college Gary took his family wine business and grew it from a $3M to a $60M business in just five years. Now he runs VaynerMedia, along the way he became a prolific angel investor and venture capitalist, investing in companies like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Uber, and Birchbox before eventually co-founding VaynerRSE, a $25M investment fund. He provides personal consultation and covers up-to-date marketing, social media, and of course – entrepreneurship techniques. He’s very active on Twitter, so you can just tweet your question with #AskGaryVee! Quite an impressive guy but not for every ear. Give it a shot!
Amy Porterfield is an incredibly warm host, which comes through in everything she does—from the Jump Start Your Facebook Marketing training program to her webinars (she loves those and has tons of great tips to start your own)- is about helping small business owners get results from their social media.
Terry Lin & Travis Marziani provide a mix of blog posts and podcast episodes every other week.The show originally began as an interview show with other eCommerce store owners, then Travis Marziani, a member of a private eCommerce mastermind selling dance clothing came on board as a co-host. The two now talk about their experiences running a store. Don’t miss their last podcast – How To Conduct A Year End Review For Your Store, covering how to do a full audit of your website for the entire year and preparing your marketing strategy for the next year!
13. The Lively Show
Jess Lively is another great female podcaster destined to uplift, inspire, and help you add a little extra intention to your everyday. She covers everything from simplifying, food, money, motherhood, personal style, career, blogging and business. She’s a great female success story in the entrepreneurial world.
This kiwi girl is never stopping adventurer who lives life to the fullest! Natalie Sisson is coming from New Zealand and based on her own experience she teaches how to build successful online business one can run from anywhere in the world using social media, online tools and outsourcing. Each 15-30 minute episode includes interviews with highly influential, super sassy and successful suitcase entrepreneurs. Natalie is also on a mission to help 1,000,000+ entrepreneurs create true freedom in life by 2020.
15. IDEO Futures
This is your creative shot in the arm for your gym session! (the best place to listen to podcasts, in our opinion). Super dynamic and personal show on how design, business and entrepreneurship intersect. These guys love the art and science of bringing cool stuff to life and they’re dedicated to the notion of “building to think”. The IDEO Futures show is based on honest and simple conversations – and they get better with every each show. We recommend you start with episode 10, where the show really started to take shape.
